Lake Watch
[reprinted with kind permission of El Ojo del Lago as it appeared in
January 2004 issue]
With hope and life for Lake Chapala, whirlpools of energy
are generating all over Lakeside. Just check o
ut
a few of the dozens of accomplishments of the Amigos del Lago (AdL)
alone, since last February, for example:
Lake Chapala was included in the international powerhouse “Living Lakes.”
AdL joined in lawsuits to stop Guanajuato farmers from halting water transfers
and to stop the construction of Arcedenio Dam. They took initial steps in the
creation of a national environmental ombudsman. About 20,000 indigenous trees
were planted last year for reforestation and wood products. Several large
corporate donations were obtained. The AdL plans to host the Ibero-American
Conference with Living Lakes, the Global Nature Fund, and international
partner lake representatives in March … right here in Chapala.
As you bask in nature’s providence… join the flow, people, join the flow.
Next time they ask you to become a member or help out, just do it. Please.
