This is a new component to this website which will develop as
questions come in. Often people thinking of visiting the area will have similar
questions and concerns. Hopefully this section of the website will provide some
answers to those questions.

We are flying from Vancouver, Canada. What is the best air
route for us to take from that destination?
 |
You can fly through San Francisco/Seattle. Your destination
in Mexico is Guadalajara. |
How far away is Ajijic and Lake Chapala to the international
airport?
 |
Guadalajara is the second largest city in Mexico. You will
arrive at the Hidalgo International airport, located
just 30 minutes away from Lake Chapala and Ajijic... which is where 99% of
the expats in the area live. |
What are names of Hotels in the area when we want arrive
for our first visit to see the area?
 |
I recommend for your first visit to the area to stay at the
Nueva Posada. The owner, Michael Eager is a fellow Canadian. You can email
him directly at
nuevaposada@prodigy.net.mx.

What kind of homes are available? What are the
price points for a 3-bedroom; 2 bath home?
 |
Mexico is a wonderful country, but entirely different than
what we are used to in Canada, but we have found it to be paradise for us...
3 Bedroom, 3 Bath homes begin in the $300,000 USD price range. |
What other expenses will there be (e.g. property taxes, fire
insurance, utility bills, etc?)
 |
Taxes are approximately $200 USD per year. |
 |
Heating our homes or using air conditioning is not
necessary. Night time temperatures are about 65 (20 Celsius) degrees
Fahrenheit. About 80 (25 Celsius) degrees Fahrenheit mid-day. We are
at an altitude of 5000 ft above sea level which moderates our year-round
temperature. |
 |
You can get fire insurance for you home, but few have it.
|
 |
Expenses after you purchase your home are minimal. Your
purchase will be in cash with 10% down when you make the offer. The
remainder will be paid at closing. There are no mortgages and all funds are
usually sent by wire transfer. |
The first step is to come to stay at the Nueva Posada. From
there you will be able to walk everywhere. Enjoy the village. Meet people. Go
to a Canadian Club meeting. See how you like the area!
I will give you an orientation tour so you can see the market
and the types of homes available.
